HITTING

In this section, we'll review the baseball coaching instruction fundamentals of hitting and I'll show you baseball drills to make practicing them fun. Whether it's off a hitting tee, soft toss or in the batting cage, you'll see a variety of ways to keep the kids interested in learning the fundamentals of hitting.

Drills for Catching a Baseball
I'll show you how to incorporate the basic youth baseball coach fundatmentals of catching a baseball, outlined in the fundamentals section of this site, into baseball drills that will help your players improve this skill. It's not enough to just provide the youth baseball instruction in these areas. Using these drills will allow the player to not only learn the technique, but also begin to build the muscle memeory that will make this a natural habit after time. These drills will improve your catching range, holding onto the ball, and glove to ball exchange time. Once you master the proper throwing and catching techniques, you'll significantly improve the time it takes you to catch the ball and get it to one of your defensive partners.

FIELDING

I'll cover both infield and outfield in this section. It's time to apply the youth baseball coach instruction from the fundamentals section into some fun baseball drills. These drills will further the fielding learning while building the required muscle memory for the player. In the outfield, we'll work on fielding linedrives, flyballs and groundballs. We'll also discuss proper throwing techniques, like the crow-hop and basic cut-offs. Infield will focus on fielding linedrives, pop-ups, and groundballs. We'll focus on both glovework and footwork here. Basic base covering responsibilities will also be discussed in this section.

Pitching Instruction - Both Player Pitch and Non-Player Pitch Leagues
Here we'll cover youth baseball coach instruction for the 2 wind-ups most commonly used by pitchers: The full wind-up and the stretch. We'll also look at the safety and fielding requirements for the non-player pitch leagues such as tee-ball and manager pitch.
